Wonder Woman Casting Rumor #438: Sophia Bush Says Maybe ...
Filed under: Action, Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Casting, RumorMonger, Fandom, Comic/Superhero/Geek
Yes, we now officially have another name to throw in the Wonder Woman pot -- this time around, it's actress Sophia Bush who seems to be raising more than a few eyebrows. IESB recently sat down with Bush to discuss her role in The Hitcher remake, and decided to bring up a rumor they had heard awhile back but never wrote about. When asked whether she had discussed playing Wonder Woman with the powers that be, Bush simply replied, "Maybe." Oh, and then she smiled.
Bush's name has now been added to a long list of potential actresses up for the role, which includes Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra, Charisma Carpenter, Jessica Biel, American Idol's Katherine McPhee (chalk that one up as the most bizarre), Rachel Bilson and Cinematical's own Kim Voynar. (Keep in mind, Kim has nothing whatsoever to do with Wonder Woman, but I thought it would be fun to toss her name into the mix as well. Go Kim!)
Though we still don't know exactly where Joss Whedon is in the production process (re-writing draft 15, perhaps?), it can't be long before his star is announced. As far as Sophia Bush goes, she fits the perfect age range (unlike back when she was replaced by Claire "Why am I so boring" Danes in Terminator 3 for being "too young"), certainly looks the part (then again, there are thousands of pretty brunettes out there in La La Land) and, according to IESB, she has a kick-ass physique -- one that's capable of, well, kicking ass. So I guess we'll see -- is "maybe" with a smile enough to get excited? Not for me ... but I could care less about a big-screen version of Wonder Woman. Your thoughts?

I'm all for seeing more of Sophia Bush in pretty much anything. But I have the same feeling about a Wonder Woman movie that I did about a Catwoman movie...and that's not good.

It's time for superhero movies to move beyond the 'isolated universe' as it has been portrayed. Take a page from Smallville or Heroes and show that there might be more than one enhanced powers person living on the planet. Yes, Wonder Woman might make an interesting movie, but what about the sexual tension between her and Superman? In the upcoming Spiderman 3, why not show Reed Richards helping Peter with the alien black symbiotic suit.. and lead right into Rise of The Silver Surfer?
Frank Miller is currently heading for parts unknown, with a followup to Sin City, The 300 etc. Can a "Dark Knight Returns" be far off? Who cares that it might not mesh with the current canon? That didn't/doesn't stop Smallville. And, since it is in the future, who says it doesn't happen? Also gives you a chance to experiement with older actors and have a movie that can co-exist along Nolan/Bale and Singer/Routh versions of Batman and Superman.
Which brings us back to Wonder Woman. Do WW... but in the context of a JLA movie. Marvel is scheduled to do an Avengers movie. DC could beat 'em to the punch.

Actually, she is about ten years too old for the part. Joss has stated that he is looking for someone in their mid teens to run with this as an origin story. Not saying that it couldn't be a 25 year old playing a sixteen year old but the 25 year old should be able to pass as a teenager at least.

Another Rumor. I hope. Why is it,that everytime a brunette appears in a new movie, she is the next Wonder Woman in a film that is not even in it's preproduction stage? I don't believe it. Sophia is a bad choice. Whedon is a bad choice. Nadia Bjorlin is the only choice.

Sophia Bush is only 5ft 6. Wonder Woman is in the 5ft 9+ range. In the comics WW was described as being atleast 5ft 11. She make look good but she is too short to play Wonder Woman.

Sophia Bush, pretty but seems a little too young for the role.
Jessica Biel too bulky, plain looking, and more manly built, not the quite exotic beauty Wonder woman is known to be.
I think these two actresses could pull it off. The beautiful Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai.
The one that I think can really pull it off would be the beautiful and sexy Salma Hayek

Eww, no Summer Glau. Nadia Bjorlin does have the look, but I think she may be just a few years too old. I still hold out hope that Whedon insists on an unknown, but if not, Sophia might work.
I used to think she was too "weird-looking" to be attractive, but then I saw a commercial for that horrible videogame horror movie she was in, and when she did that little two-second smile with the earpiece on, I thought, "Huh. She's kinda hot." Strange that I remember that so vividly, but she does have that "exotic beauty" going for her, and I think she could pass as Greek. The height doesn't bother me at all, in fact I like that she's not a giant. Comics exaggerate the scope of the heroes to make them more iconic, but movies are a different medium, and I think the closer to average height will make WW more life-like.
So in short: boo Biel, boo Bjorlin, boo Glau, Yay Bush!

Sophia's perfect... I actually had a roleplaying profile using her as wonder woman.. "Joss Whedon has said that he is looking for someone between 18 and 30 to play the part. Sophia Bush turns 25 later this year." Quote from /iflims
